Project  / The Vault. A new cocktail bar in Broughty Ferry.

Client  / Private hospitality operator

Description

We were approached to design a new high end cocktail bar within the heart of Broughty Ferry’s social area. We approached the design aiming to create a contemporary interpretation of a high-end cocktail bar inspired by historical speakeasys found in Soho, West London.

One of the ways we have adopted the Soho speakeasy aesthetic is through the use of large draping curtains, which function as screens to conceal hidden lounge areas and booths, while also functioning as a soft backdrop to the cocktail bar. Curtains have also been introduced at the entrance area to create a gradual transition from inside-out. Moving into the main bar area the L shaped bar counter is to be the focal point of the space, with bar stools positioned at each side. There is to be lounge seating fitted at each wall with low seated stools provided for additional seating. Adjacent to the bar counter there will also be loose chairs and tables to maximise seating capacity.

Positioned off from the main bar area is two screened lounge areas. These two areas will provide a more relaxed and intimate drinking experience, separate from the main bar area. Lounge area one is set next to the main entrance/ foyer and will provide seating to mixed parties. The second lounge area is in the former bank vault and will be an allocated VIP lounge for single parties or customers, this to play a feature.

The aim is to preserve as much of the old equipment as possible to portray a sense of history and use, providing additional character and quality to the overall experience. To achieve this, we have retained three of the existing safes, which will be on display throughout. Additionally, the former vault door will be removed from its hinges and relocated to the side of the VIP lounge as a display piece to the main bar area.
