Description

Our project at Douglas Terrace, Broughty Ferry, involved converting a subdivided period property back into a single-family home with stunning views of the Tay estuary.

Our client approached us wanting to restore the their period property which had been subdivided over the years. Having lived in the first-floor maisonette, they had recently purchased the ground floor flat to create a unified home. The aim was to blend period character with modern comfort for our client, their children, and grandchildren.

Over the years, the property had been split into two units, removing the original staircase. The ground floor unit layout had a disjointed flow, dark rear rooms with limited connection to the garden.

To resolve these issues, we designed a new open plan open kicthen/garden room with tall ceilings, creating a light filled atmosphere. We also designed a new master bathroom, utility room, and a spiral staircase leading to a snug/bedroom area for the grandchildren. A corridor, used as a gallery for the client's artwork, provided a transition from traditional to contemporary space.

A period curved staircase was designed by ourselves and made by a specialist craftsman, seamlessly relinking all three floors. The rear garden room was enhanced with an infinity rooflight, large glazing, and new doors to maximise light influx and reconnecting the rear garden space.
